Abstract
A Case of chronic lymphocytic leukemia, a 45 year old Korean man is presented
together with a review of the literature. The patient was admitted to the department of
internal medicine of Wonju Union Christian Hospital on April 20 th, 1969 because of
general weakness and gum bleeding since March 10 th, 1969.
From 10 years auto Patient was treated with myleran under the diagnosis of chronic
leukemia with good physical condition, but March l0th 1969, general weakness and
gumbleeding developed again, at that time the bone marrow examination wasp erformed,
which disclosed a chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
On pshysical examination, the patient was moderately developed and nurished, but
moderately Pale on face, body weight wag 60kg, B.P 130/80mmHg, pulse rate 80/min.
Conjunctivae and lips were moderately Bale. No enlarged lymph notes were noted.
There was mild sternal tenderness and scattered pettechiae on th anterior chert wall.
Slight tenderness on right upper quadrant of abdomen with hepatomegaly (1F. B.), but
spleen wag not palpable. Neurological examination was negative.
Laboratory findings disclosed hemoglobin was 8.0gm, thrombocyte 32,000, and W.B.C.
77,850 with 69% of lymphocytes. Bone marrow showed almost all nucleated cell were
lymphocytes and prolymphocytes.
The patient was placed on chlorambucil (leukeran), and resulted marked improvement
of general symptoms, and physical status associated with marked reduction of leukocyte
level.
